μάλιστα ἔτη γεγονὼς τελευτᾷ νόσῳ.

Areus, moreover, when provisions had been exhausted by his troops, led the army back again; for he considered it sensible to reserve rash actions for his own affairs, rather than squander them thoughtlessly upon those of strangers.
